I just read Mike Huckabee’s “My President” piece. So let me get this straight: Up until now, black moms could not tell their children that “there are no limits to their opportunities in America” or that “their pathway to the top is not necessarily limited to sports or entertainment, but might be through education, hard work and public service”?
That’s absolutely crazy talk!
What about Clarence Thomas, Shelby Steele, Condi Rice, Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell? What about the tons of good role models who aren’t famous but live all around us?
Attitudes like this only fuel the argument that Mr. Obama was elected precisely because he is black. Mr. Huckabee’s letter almost says out loud that, hey isn’t it great that Obama was elected “in spite of it” (quotations mine).
Sorry, I voted against Obama not because he is black, but because I don’t agree with his beliefs, proposed policies or his stance on most issues. I don’t care what color he is. And neither should anyone else.
